Vendor Spotlight - Hamutelet

Based in Ramat HaSharon, Israel, Hamutal Elad is a textile designer specializing in printing and weaving. Her first "day job" at the age of 16 was in an office and art supplies store, where she discovered her love for paper goods and stationery.

After graduating with her B. DES from "Shenkar College", she worked in the industry as a jacquard designer. Though she loved this job, she felt something was missing. So, during maternity leave with her daughter, Gal, she decided to start her own brand.

She aims to only use Eco friendly materials and techniques, water based colors, and combine traditional and manual techniques. She loves doing a small series of products and collaborating with other craftsmen and small mills from her community.

Minimal Stationery for Your Minimal Life

Hi there. I'm Kelly and I am owner and founder of P+P. As of yet, I've kept the blog impersonal and mostly focused on our awesome vendors and stationery-related content. I can promise you that won't change! However, I wanted to let you in on some changes I've been making in my own life that has influenced my aesthetic and creative inclinations.

Here it is: I've been on a minimizing kick for about 3 months now and it has totally upended my life in a good way. After reading Marie Kondo's book, "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up," and discovering the blog Un-fancy (Caroline tackles personal style while trying to minimize and spend less), I have felt renewed and ready to throw away almost everything I own. Every time I tackle a pile of stuff and reduce it, I feel lighter. Having less stuff has refocused and energized me so much that I am committing myself to a summer of simplifying. From now until summer, it's on. I will minimize.

In the spirit of minimal living, I have viewed paper and stationery in a new light as well. There are some awesomely modern and elegantly simple products out there! Here are a few of my favorite picks:

Vendor Spotlight - Kristy Black Design

These awesome coloring book calendars from Kristy Black Design were featured in our January boxes. We immediately loved the graphic nature of her designs and couldn't wait to get our hands on them! We may have snuck one out of the pile just to color ourselves. ;)

Besides design and illustrating, Kristy also specializes in logo and brand development, announcements and invitations, custom stickers and stamps, as well as social media branding and graphics.

Additionally, she's hilarious. She says she once ordered a pizza while running on the treadmill.

Why are we so obsessed with stationery?

Buzzing in the background of Instagram, you will find a little community of stationery addicts sharing photos of notebooks and pens, new planners filled with washi tape and writing in every ink color possible, stickers and paper clips, and dollar spot finds from Target. Hashtags like #stationeryaddict, #stationeryporn, and #planneraddict will lead you to pics of paper products that will make you salivate. It goes on and on. Being a part of this little niche of Instagram got us wondering, why are we so obsessed with stationery?
For me, I think it goes back to shopping for school supplies at the beginning of a new school year. New pens, pencils, folders, and notebooks meant a fresh start for everything. A new year brought new possibilities, new goals, and renewed hope. A blank notebook, a blank planner, means a blank slate. And pens in every color are the tools we use to draw out a new path for a redirected life. We can start over and we can start something new. And of course, there's always the explanation that it's just plain fun. ;) So that's my take on stationery obsession. What do you think? Why are we so obsessed with stationery?
